Things to do in Turkey. — 5 Comments

  1. Love the rating system. We saw most (but not all) of these things on our trip to Turkey ten years ago. I would agree with your Top Ten, although I don’t think we did #6.

  2. I would add that availability, due to renovations/conservation influenced our top ten. The Blue Mosque is world famous for its beauty, but when we were there the interior was almost completely covered in construction tarps. So, it was a “meh” for us, when those who will see it in all of its refurbished glory may be blown away and scoff at our rating. Similarly, we loved the Topkaipi Palace, but lots of people have said that the Dolmabahçe Palace is even more amazing. Unfortunately, it was totally closed while some conservation efforts are on going. That’s why it’s not on this list.

  3. I loved the Chora Church, would put it higher than a C. A good example of Christian art in an Islamic country. I hope you’ll do some more in depth posting.

    • They are in the process of changing the Chora Church into a mosque and unfortunately covering the murals, but I plan to post about that soon. That is why it gets a C.
