The early settlers of Calico were hard working people, but they were not very good at achieving their true destiny. It wouldn’t be until an enterprising man named Walt Knott (yes, the one that developed Knott’s Berry Farm) came to town that Calico would become what it was meant to be. In 1951 Walt bought the entire town and slowly worked at making the town become what it always should have been, a Tourist Trap.

It was with this in mind that the Pedroza family set out on a Memorial Day adventure in 2009. We saw pretty much everything. General Admission is $6.00 per person, but it wouldn’t be a real Tourist Trap if there wasn’t anything else to spend your money on. Don’t worry, with penny presses, train rides, gift shops, and a restaurant (where you throw your peanuts on the floor); there are plenty of ways to lose that silver dollar of yours. Despite the more than obviously bilking, we still had a good time.

Here is a summary video of our Calico experience:

The Mystery Shack Tour:

AJ going after the loot:

Needless to say we made sure AJ was accompanied at all times:
<
(it says “”Unattended Children will be given an expresso and a free puppy!””)”

Ok, so in 1881 a small mining town named Calico was established.
