I have successfully walked one mile a day for a whole month now. I guess I could have blogged about it sooner but truth is I wasn’t sure I would last for this long. I didn’t want to blog about it until I could say I had stuck with it, at least for a little while.

At the beginning of the year, like I always do, I weighed myself and I was at 330 lbs. That sounds pretty bad but during the whole COVID19 thing I kind of got depressed and gained even more weight. In June I was at my peak at 348 lbs. Basically, I was depressed because I had all these travel plans for this year and I had to cancel all of them. Then everything closed down and all those other places that I used to go to were no longer accessible. If you follow this blog, you know that I am not an indoor person. Heck, I am not even a stay in the country type person!

With the weight increasing it was getting hard to walk. I remember walking up a flight of stairs and being winded. Not a major issue, but it was enough to question myself. I was losing mobility and it struck me as strange considering I have climbed many mountains and even ran two marathons. I knew I didn’t have the ability to run a marathon, nor did I have the time to train for something like that. So I tried to come up with something that I could do and didn’t have too much of a time commitment.

I saw a video on youtube about this person trying to run a mile a day and I decided to try it out myself. A mile is a good distance because it really doesn’t take that much commitment and it is still significant. Sometimes I even feel like walking more than a mile, but even on my laziest day I can still default back to one mile.

I am still chugging along, we will see how this works out. Getting out and walking for me was mostly a way to deal with depression, just moving helps me with that. A secondary motivation is it has helped me with my weight. Not directly, but it has helped me get motivated enough to also track what I eat. I am using a calorie tracker called Lose It. So far, so good, down to 336, which is almost back to where I was before all this COVID19 stuff started. My current goal is to get back to 330 (pre COVID19), then under 300 (out of the three hundreds), then 250 (so I can ride a roller coaster I want to ride when it opens back up), and then to 210 (which is about what I like to weigh).

Only time will tell if all that will work out for me but for right now I am still out there taking one step at a time.

Video:

Yay!
